Privacy Policy — Quran Urdu - Offline & Hadith

This policy explains, in plain language, what the Quran Urdu app (the "App") does with your information. It describes what actually happens in the App today. If the App changes, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change.

Short version: The App has no account system and no backend server of its own. It does not collect, receive, sell, or share your personal data. Your reading history, bookmarks, notes, goals, and settings stay on your device. Your location is used on your device only to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction and is never sent anywhere. The App is free and supported by contextual advertising served through Google AdMob: we build no advertising profile about you and the App does not request your device's advertising ID. Google's ad technology still processes a limited amount of technical data to deliver ads and prevent fraud — see section 4.

1. Data we collect on our servers: none

The App has no backend server and no user accounts. We do not collect, receive, store, sell, or transmit your reading history, bookmarks, notes, reading goals, search queries, or settings to us or to any server we control. Everything you do in the App is stored on your own device (see section 2).

2. Information stored on your device

The App stores data locally on your device so it works offline and remembers your preferences. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or share something yourself. It consists of:

Local storage (small preference and history records):

On-device databases (IndexedDB), used for downloads and offline caching:

How long this is kept: until you delete it. You can clear cached and downloaded data at any time from Settings → Clear Cached Offline Data, and you can remove everything by clearing the App's storage in Android Settings or by uninstalling the App. The App does not back this data up to any cloud service (Android backup is disabled for the App).

3. Location (prayer times and Qibla)

With your permission, the App reads your device's location to calculate prayer times and the Qibla (prayer direction). This calculation happens entirely on your device using the built-in calculation library. Your coordinates are never sent to us or to any server, and are not shared with anyone. You can deny the location permission and instead select a city manually; prayer times and Qibla will still work.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob — contextual ads only)

The App is free and supported by advertising. Ads are served through Google AdMob as contextual (non-personalized) ads:

We do not claim the ads SDK performs no processing at all: delivering an ad and blocking invalid traffic necessarily involve some data. What we can state — and do state — is that this is contextual advertising only: no advertising ID, no behavioural profile, and no personalised targeting.

Advertising is the only third-party technology in the App that processes data for its own purposes (ad delivery and fraud prevention).

5. Third-party services the App contacts

To fetch content and audio, the App contacts the following services. Each request contains only the identifier of the content being requested (a surah, ayah, or book number) — never your name, account, or location:

ServiceUsed forData sent
everyayah.comQuran recitation and translation audio filesSurah/ayah number encoded in the file path
api.alquran.cloudBackup source of Quran text if the bundled copy is unavailableSurah number in the URL
api.quran.comWord-by-word meanings, Urdu tafsir (explanation), and transliterationVerse key (surah:ayah) in the URL
cdn.jsdelivr.net (fawazahmed0 Hadith API)Downloading hadith booksBook edition name in the URL
Google AdMob / Google Mobile AdsContextual advertising (see section 4)No advertising ID; IP address and limited technical data for ad delivery and fraud prevention

These providers may see your IP address as part of any normal internet request, as with any website or app that fetches content online. Their own privacy policies govern their handling of that data. The App does not send them any personal information about you.

6. Offline use and downloaded content

Most of the App works completely offline: the Quran text is bundled with the App, and audio, hadith books, and word meanings can be downloaded for offline use. Downloaded content is stored on your device as described in section 2. The App checks nothing about you when it is offline.

Voice input: if you use voice search in the "Ask" feature, the App uses your device's speech recognition. By default it requests on-device recognition only, and will not send your voice to a cloud service. A separate, off-by-default setting ("Allow cloud speech recognition") lets you opt in to Google's online recogniser; if you enable it, your voice audio is sent to Google for transcription. You can leave it off and still type your query.

7. Data sharing

We do not share your personal data with anyone, because we do not collect it. The only third-party data flows are the content requests listed in section 5 and the advertising SDK described in section 4.

8. Data retention

We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Data on your device is retained until you delete it, as described in section 2.

9. Children's privacy

The App is a general-audience religious reading app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, because we do not collect personal information from anyone. The App does serve third-party contextual advertising (section 4); if you are a parent or guardian and have concerns about advertising on a child's device, you can restrict advertising through your Android settings.

10. Your rights and choices

Because the App keeps your data only on your device, you remain in direct control of it. You can:

If you are in a region with data-protection laws (for example the GDPR or India's DPDP Act), note that there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, export, or erase — it is all on your device and under your control. If you believe otherwise, contact us using the details below.

11. Security

Your data is protected by your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, and Android app sandboxing). No data is transmitted to us, so there is no server-side copy that could be breached.

12. Changes to this policy

If the App's data practices change — for example, if analytics or a new third-party service is added — this policy will be updated before that change ships, and the "Last updated" date will be revised.
